Who is James?

James Peter Sotis [he/him] is a director, designer, and narrative enthusiast based in Boston, MA.

 

He was previously the Artistic Director of

Vagabond Theatre Group -- a Boston-based company dedicated to the exploration and production of new work -- in which capacity he has directed VTG’s IRNE-nominated productions of Burning the Barn and Burning Up the Dictionary, as well as the Norton nominated Breaking the Shakespeare Code. James is also a Core Collaborator and dramaturg for The Big Times Project -- an open ended serial drama for the stage. Other directing credits include IRNE- and Norton-nominated Two Boys Lost (Stickball Productions), True Believers, Supergravity and the Eleventh Dimension and A Southern Victory - Parts I, II, and III (VTG).

 

Around town, he has directed for (among others) The Big Times Project, Third Citizen Theatre Co., Also Known As Theatre, Stickball Productions, Open Theatre Project, SHOTZ Boston, Playwright's Platform, Happy Medium, Solas Nua, Praxis Stage, and the

One-Minute Play Festival.

 

James holds a degree in Film & Television from Boston University.

Who is Alex? 

Alexandra Smith [she/her] has a passion for storytelling that began with her childhood obsessions with books and make-believe.  Today, she is a theatre director, producer, and teaching artist who believes that theatre is the ultimate means through which society can reflect upon, challenge, and affirm our experiences.  Her storytelling interests include:  The ways that humans craft, embody, and resist narratives; the transcendent power of human connection; and ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.

Director:  Extremities and A Good Death (Also Known As Theatre), Fiddlers Three (The Theater Barn), Anon(ymous) (Hartford Stage Education), and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea (Emerson College Graduate Studies), and workshops of Persephone, a new myth for a hotter world and Prudence (Open Theatre Project).  Assistant Director:  Lyric Stage Company, the National Women’s Theatre Festival, Wheelock Family Theatre, and Huntington Theatre Company.  Producer: My Body No Choice, The Community Write digital engagement series, and An Education In Prudence (Open Theatre Project).  Teaching Artist:  Actors’ Shakespeare Project, American Repertory Theater, Central Square Theatre, the Huntington Theatre Company, and others. Community Programs Manager at Lyric Stage, Core Collaborator for The Big Times Project, and Boston local guide for Take Walks International.  Board Member for the Theatre Community Benevolent Fund since 2016.
